Hey everyone, I've been wondering if Canvas can actually tell when someone's using AI tools like ChatGPT for their assignments. Has anyone experienced this or know how it works? Would love to hear your thoughts or any tips!

My professor mentioned they use some new tool integrated with Canvas to check for AI content but didn't give much detail.
My guess is Canvas itself doesn’t do the detection but schools add plugins or use third-party apps alongside it.
Some say you can confuse detectors by mixing AI writing with your own edits.
I think ethical concerns matter too, relying too much on AI detection might scare students away from using helpful tech.
From what I gathered, most AI detection relies on weird word patterns or repetition, so if you tweak the text a bit, it might slip through.
If you’re worried, just be honest about using AI for drafts. Transparency helps.
Just hope schools use detection responsibly and not to punish students unfairly.
I heard some schools are using OpenAI’s own detectors alongside Canvas. Not sure how effective that is tho.
Honestly, I doubt Canvas has anything super advanced to detect AI specifically. They probably just check for plagiarism in old papers.
AI is evolving fast, so detection tools probably have to keep updating constantly, kinda like antivirus software.
Some teachers say they can tell by the writing style if it’s AI, but that’s pretty subjective.
Can anyone recommend a good AI detection tool that works with Canvas?
I tried submitting some stuff written with ChatGPT and nothing got flagged on Canvas so far. Might depend on your school though.
I’ve seen Canvas start showing some new analytics on writing habits, maybe that’s part of detection?
I think if you’re just using AI to help brainstorm or get ideas, it’s no big deal. But full essays generated by AI might get noticed.
I’m curious how often AI detection actually leads to penalties or just warnings.
I think this whole AI detection thing will be a big discussion in education for years to come.
Would be cool if Canvas had a feature like Turnitin but specifically for AI writing detection.
