Hey folks, I've been wondering if ChatGPT can actually browse the web or access real-time info? Kinda curious how it pulls in data and if it can fetch stuff from internet directly or just relies on what it learned before. Anyone got the scoop?

From what I've seen, ChatGPT doesn't really connect to the internet live. It uses a big dataset trained up until a certain point but can't just look stuff up on the spot.
I guess ChatGPT is more like a super smart assistant but not a live web browser. If you want live info, better to go directly to the source or news apps.
Just to add, if you want a tool that scans the web for info, ChatGPT ain't it out-of-the-box. You’d need extra stuff or specialized versions.
I wonder if in the future there will be a version that can safely and reliably access the internet without giving wrong info or breaching privacy.
I heard newer versions might link to the internet in some way? Like through plugins or integrations? Not sure if that’s widely available yet though.
At least for now, ChatGPT shines with creative stuff and explaining concepts rather than live info, right?
I tried asking it for today's weather and it gave me general advice but no real time data. So definitely no internet access for live info.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that actually combine AI with internet access, pretty neat stuff there.
Sometimes it feels weird asking ChatGPT about current events knowing it doesn’t actually know what happened yesterday lol.
I think the main reason is privacy and safety. Allowing it to access the internet live could lead to risky or inaccurate info. So sounds like a feature they are cautious about.
