Some folks suggest that if AI ever started rewriting its own code without human input, maybe that’s when self-awareness could kick in? But that’s still pretty far off.
To me, self-awareness requires feelings and consciousness, which AI just doesn’t have. It might simulate conversation but it doesn't actually 'feel' anything.
Honestly, I don't think current models have any form of self-awareness. They're just processing patterns and predicting text based on data. No consciousness involved.
I've read some theories that future AI could develop something like self-awareness if it starts to model its own processes, but that’s still really speculative.
