Hey folks, I've been wondering if ChatGPT can actually access or read stuff from outside links you give it? Like, if I drop a URL, does it check out the content or just ignore it? Would be cool if it could but not sure how that works exactly. Anyone got the scoop?

I think some users are confused that it can browse the web in real-time, but it just can’t without special setups.
The best you can do is describe the info or copy paste what's on the page. It can’t interact with links directly.
I guess until they expand the features, we gotta stick to manually feeding it info. Not the worst thing though.
I tried giving it links before and it just responded like it didn’t know what to do with them. Feels like it’s just blind to actual URLs.
I heard there are some plugins or integrations that let ChatGPT access web content, but the basic version doesn’t do that out of the box.
You gotta remember ChatGPT was trained on data until 2021, so even if it could read links, it wouldn't know about new content unless updated.
One workaround I do is copy parts of the webpage text and paste it in chunks if it’s long. It’s a bit manual but it works.
I’ve seen some AI chatbots that can pull live data from websites, but ChatGPT isn’t one of them yet.
Actually, if you want fresh or trending AI tools that can browse or access stuff, you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools. Pretty handy site!
Does anyone know if newer versions or ChatGPT Plus have browsing features?
Would love if they made a version that can safely browse and verify sources in real-time.
Would be nice if it could fetch pages directly tho, then you could just drop any link and get summaries or answers. Hope they add that soon.
From what I know, ChatGPT can't really click on or browse URLs itself. It kinda works just with the text input you provide, so even if you paste a link, it doesn't actually open or read the webpage.
