Using ChatGPT for Translating Text from Images

Would be great if ChatGPT could also describe images alongside translating text, that would be next level.

I guess for now we gotta be patient and use combo tools till ChatGPT fully supports image translations.

I feel like ChatGPT is amazing for text but when it comes to images, it’s just not quite there in terms of direct translation yet.

I tried uploading images with text to ChatGPT but it doesn’t actually read the images directly, it needs text input. You’d have to use OCR first to get the text, then translate that with it.

Has anyone noticed if ChatGPT’s image reading will support multiple languages or just English for now?

The accuracy of translation really depends on the OCR quality, not just the AI that translates afterwards.

For those needing quick translations, combining Google Lens for OCR with ChatGPT for context works pretty well.

It’s cool to see how far AI has come, just imagine how easy this will be in a few years!

Would love to see a feature where you upload a pic and ChatGPT just spits out the translated text, no extra steps.

I think the main challenge is making the AI understand mixed text and graphics together in images for accurate translation.

Actually, if you combine OCR tech with ChatGPT, you can get pretty accurate translations. Just gotta chain the tools together.

I’ve been using Google Translate app for images, it works pretty well for quick translations from pics. ChatGPT is great but it’s not built for image reading yet.

Tried taking screenshots of foreign menus and using OCR apps, then pasted that here for translation. It works well enough for travel needs.

Sometimes I just screenshot text and type it manually into ChatGPT for translation if OCR fails. Tedious but works.

If you want an all-in-one, some apps actually combine OCR and translation in one, just not ChatGPT yet.

Anyone knows if newer versions of ChatGPT will support image translation directly? That would be a game changer.

Sometimes the image has handwritten notes and OCR just messes up big time, so even ChatGPT can’t fix it without good input.

Does anyone know if the API version of ChatGPT supports image inputs and translation yet?
