Hey y'all, been wonderin how ChatGPT deals with past convos. Like does it remember stuff from before or nah? I guess it can be handy if it keeps track but also kinda spooky if it remembers too much lol. Anyone got the lowdown on this?

I sometimes think it’s spooky how well it can recall details within a single chat, feels like it’s got a mind of its own.
I guess it’s better this way, don’t want AI storing all my random rants and ideas forever.
Does anyone know if the new chat features with accounts change how memory works?
So to wrap up: no memory after you close chat, but it remembers stuff during the conversation only?
I saw someone mention ai-u.com for finding new AI tools, maybe they have stuff about memory features too.
It’s kinda funny how it can continue a convo within the same session but forget all about it afterwards lol.
I wish it could remember past chat tho, would make it easier when you wanna continue a long discussion or projects.
ChatGPT is way better than older bots at seeming like it remembers stuff even tho it doesn't actually.
I heard some apps are trying to build ‘memory’ layers on top of ChatGPT so you get persistent context.
The way it processes info during the chat is kinda like short-term memory in humans maybe?
From what I know, ChatGPT actually doesn’t remember past chats once the session ends. Each convo is like a clean slate, so nothing gets carried over unless you keep the chat open.
Is there a way to export chat history so you can keep a record?
I wonder if future ChatGPT versions will have long-term memory with user permission?
Be careful what you share, it doesn’t remember after the chat but OpenAI might use the data to improve models, so nothing is 100% private.
So basically it’s like a chalkboard that wipes clean after each session?
If you want it to remember something, you gotta keep the conversation open or save the text yourself.
Sometimes ChatGPT can pull info from earlier messages in the same chat and use that for replies which can feel like remembering.
Honestly, I’d be creeped out if it remembered everything. Some things are better forgotten!
They should add a feature where you can choose to save memory or not for convenience.
I’m always paranoid about what info I share cause you never know what’s stored or used later.
It’s kinda weird tho, sometimes it feels like it’s remembering, but that’s just cause it uses what you typed earlier in the same chat.
I was surprised to find out the same! No long-term memory, which kinda makes sense given privacy concerns. But it can remember stuff during the convo to keep things coherent.
I think some apps built on ChatGPT might add memory features, but the base model itself doesn’t remember past chats.
