Hey folks, I've been curious about what exactly happens with the data we share when chatting with ChatGPT. Like, how safe is it and what do they actually do with it? Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences!

Honestly I think the best way is to just be mindful and assume your data might be used in some way, so don’t share anything you wouldn’t want out there.
It'd be cool if there was a way to chat with ChatGPT without any data being stored at all.
I heard some folks mention you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools which sometimes have better data policies. Anyone tried that?
Can anyone explain if the data is encrypted or protected somehow when sent to the servers?
Does anyone know if the data is shared with third parties? That’s my biggest concern.
I’ve noticed sometimes the responses seem to reflect info I’ve shared before, which is kinda spooky but also shows data is being used actively.
I read somewhere that data might be reviewed by humans sometimes to improve the system? Not sure how often or if it’s still like that.
I’m curious if there’s any way to delete your data or opt out of data collection?
I also wonder if the data is ever used to train future versions of the model or just the one you’re talking to?
Does ChatGPT use your data to target ads or anything like that? Seems like that’d be scary.
If you’re worried, just keep the convos generic and avoid sharing things like emails, passwords, or personal IDs.
Honestly, I try not to give away anything personal when chatting. Better safe than sorry, especially with AI.
I trust OpenAI more than most companies when it comes to data, but still, I wish they'd be more transparent about what exactly they keep.
I've wondered the same thing! From what I understand, OpenAI uses the data to improve the model but also tries to anonymize it to protect privacy. Not 100% sure though.
Sometimes I feel like the data usage policies are written so complicated it’s hard to really understand what’s going on.
Just to add, the data helps improve the AI so in a way, we’re all helping make it smarter, but yeah, privacy is a big trade off.
Does anyone have experience with OpenAI's data retention policies? Like how long they keep the data?
