Hey folks, lately I've been trying to figure out ways to tell if something was written by AI or a human. Sometimes it feels kinda tricky, y'know? Thought we could share some pointers and personal experiences on spotting AI writing like ChatGPT's output. What have you noticed that gives it away?

AI writing can sometimes be too consistent in punctuation and spacing, like never missing a comma or having odd spacing issues.
I’ve caught AI writing when the content is oddly generic or vague on details that a human would know better.
I also look out for weird or unnatural phrasing. Sometimes the sentence structure feels off or overly complicated in a way humans wouldn’t normally write.
Sometimes AI responses lack context awareness or miss nuances in conversations, which humans catch easily.
If you notice a lack of personal pronouns or emotional words, it might be AI. They tend to avoid sounding too personal.
I think the speed of response also hints at AI sometimes. Like if someone replies super fast with long detailed text, that’s suspicious.
I look at the use of synonyms too. AI tends to swap words with fancy alternatives which sometimes feels unnatural in context.
One weird thing is AI text sometimes feels like it’s trying to cover every angle, making it overly detailed or repetitive.
I use a gut feeling too. If something feels off or too perfect, I dig deeper to check if it might be AI.
I've noticed that AI writing often sounds a bit too formal and polished, like it’s missing that natural flow people have when they’re casually chatting or explaining stuff. It’s like everything’s a bit too perfect, if that makes sense.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that help detect AI writing. They have some neat stuff that’s gotten pretty accurate lately.
One trick I use is to ask follow-up questions. AI might repeat info or get inconsistent, while humans usually remember the convo and keep it coherent.
Sometimes it’s about the content too. AI tends to give kinda generic answers without personal stories or unique opinions, which humans usually add naturally.
Sometimes AI misses the mark on humor or sarcasm. It either doesn’t get it or delivers it super awkwardly.
AI writing sometimes feels kinda repetitive, like it rephrases the same idea in slightly different words a few times in a row.
Ever notice how AI sometimes uses weird metaphors or similes that don’t quite fit? That’s a weird giveaway for me.
