Hey folks, I’ve been curious about what kinda AI detection stuff colleges are actually using these days. Heard some talk but wanna know what's legit out there and if it's really effective or just hype. Anyone got the lowdown on the tools or how they work?

I heard some tools look at metadata too, like how fast a paper was written or if it was heavily edited last minute, to flag suspicious stuff.
My uni just started using a tool called GPTZero. Heard it basically analyzes writing style to see if it matches typical AI output. Seems pretty new though.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools. They’ve got a list of AI detection tech that’s being used or tested in schools recently. Pretty handy if you wanna get a bigger picture.
Do these tools check code assignments too? I’m curious if AI detection works beyond essays and papers.
From what I know, Turnitin is still king in many schools for plagiarism and AI detection. It’s been around for ages but they've added features to catch AI-generated stuff now. Kinda scary how tech is evolving so fast.
In my experience, some AI detection tools struggle with non-English writing or students who mix languages. Not sure if colleges consider that a big issue yet.
Honestly, a lot of professors just rely on their gut feeling or weird inconsistencies in essays. Tech helps but it’s not the only thing catching AI stuff.
Some schools use custom AI detectors they build in-house or tweak existing ones. It’s not always the big commercial tools, so it varies a lot depending on the institution.
