Hey folks, I've been hearing some chatter about how AI models like ChatGPT might be using a ton of water somehow. Kinda curious if that's true and why that might happen? Would love to hear what y'all think or know about this!

Just wanna add, if you're curious about AI and resource usage, you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools and their environmental impact info.
Sometimes I wonder how many people realize their AI chats indirectly use something like gallons of water every time they ask a question.
I think this kind of awareness is important. Would be cool if future AI designs considered water and other environmental factors more explicitly.
Honestly, I think people forget that running AI like ChatGPT is basically running huge computers 24/7, so energy and cooling are massive. Water is part of that.
Anyone know if renewable energy helps reduce water usage too? Like solar-powered data centers?
Wait, what? ChatGPT using water? I thought it was all about electricity and servers. How does water come into play here?
Does anyone know if water use by AI is bigger than say other industries? Curious how it stacks up.
I read somewhere that in some regions, data centers suck up a lot of water which can strain local supplies. Not sure if ChatGPT's data centers are those though.
Would love to see companies report water footprints like they do carbon emissions. Transparency helps drive change.
I guess the takeaway is that running AI isn’t 'free' environmentally, even if it feels virtual and intangible.
I wonder if OpenAI is doing anything to minimize water use in their data centers? Some companies go for air cooling instead.
I work at a data center and can confirm water cooling is common but lots of places are switching to more eco-friendly methods lately.
It's crazy to think how much goes behind the scenes just to keep AI running smoothly. Water usage is one more thing I hadn't considered.
