Hey folks, I've been wondering about something kinda sketchy about chat apps lately. Like, when you delete your conversations in apps like ChatGPT, do you think they're really gone forever? Or is there some kinda backup or hidden storage where they hang around? Just curious if anyone's got the deets or personal experience with this kinda stuff. Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, once you delete chats, they disappear from your account, but might still be stored in backups for a limited time until they're overwritten. Pretty standard for cloud services.
For casual chats, I don’t mind if they keep my stuff for a bit, but if it’s something private, I’d never trust the app fully.
If you really want full privacy, self-hosting an AI model might be the only way, but that’s pretty techy for most.
It’s always good to read the privacy policy carefully. Sometimes the fine print reveals stuff you wouldn’t expect.
I wonder if there's a way to request complete data erase from OpenAI? Like GDPR or something?
I tested this by deleting a chat and trying to find it again later. It was gone from my history, so maybe it’s really deleted on the user side, but who knows if backups exist somewhere else.
Got a question: do deleted chats affect your AI experience negatively? Like, does the AI lose context or learning?
I was worried about this too! From what I've read, OpenAI says they don't keep your chats after you delete them, but you never know for sure, right? Kinda makes me hesitant to share sensitive stuff.
This kinda stuff worries me, but so far no freakout needed. Just don't share passwords or super personal stuff in chats and you'll be fine.
I heard somewhere that chats might be stored for a while to help train the AI. But if you delete them, it stops being linked to your account. Anyone know if that's true?
Sometimes I think deleting chats is more for user comfort than actual data erasing. Like making us feel in control, you know?
I use ChatGPT a lot but never put sensitive info there. I figure it's better safe than sorry even if they say chats get deleted.
Honestly, if it’s super important info, don’t rely on the delete button alone. Screenshots are safer if you want a record. For privacy, better be cautious.
I tried deleting a chat but found some parts still showing in autocomplete suggestions?? Anyone else seen that?
I found a thread where someone mentioned you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might be more privacy focused. Might be worth a look if this stuff bugs you.
I appreciate how the ChatGPT team is transparent about data usage compared to other platforms, but more transparency is always welcome!
Anyone else heard about some shady data retention behind the scenes? I’m kinda paranoid now lol.
