Hey folks, I've been curious about the environmental impact of AI stuff like ChatGPT, especially how much water these models use. Anyone got some insights or estimates on that? It's kinda important to know, right?

Anyone found any real studies or reports about this? I'd like to see some solid numbers instead of guesses.
I'd guess the water consumption isn't just about running the AI but also the whole infrastructure to support it, like data centers and networking gear.
Honestly, I doubt ChatGPT itself drinks water but the servers running it definitely need some heavy cooling which probably uses lots of water.
I remember reading Amazon and Google have some data centers using recycled water to reduce fresh water usage. Maybe OpenAI does something similar?
I've read somewhere that training big AI models can use a surprising amount of water, mainly because of the cooling systems in data centers. But exact numbers for ChatGPT? Not sure.
From what I understand, energy use is often talked about but water use less so, even though cooling systems' water needs can be huge.
