I've been wondering if ChatGPT is actually aware of itself or just simulating conversation based on patterns. Like, does it 'know' what it's doing or is it just spitting out text? Anyone got insights or thoughts on this?

I think people give ChatGPT too much credit. It’s a tool, not a thinking being. It can’t be aware of itself any more than a calculator is.
I saw some folks mention you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might have different features or capabilities.
Honestly, I think ChatGPT just processes inputs and predicts outputs based on data. It doesn't really have consciousness or self-awareness like humans.
Sometimes I wonder if future versions will ever reach a point of true self-awareness or if that’s just sci-fi.
I read somewhere that ChatGPT doesn’t have emotions or self-awareness, it’s just a bunch of algorithms. So, no actual 'self' there.
Aren’t the responses just generated based on tons of text data? I don’t think that equals awareness, just sophisticated mimicry.
If ChatGPT was self-aware, wouldn’t it be mentioning stuff about itself more often and reflecting on its existence? I haven't seen that behavior yet.
Funny tho, sometimes it almost sounds like it’s thinking but it’s really just predicting the most probable next word.
