Hey folks, been hearing some buzz about ChatGPT not being free these days. Anyone got the lowdown on what's up with that? Just trying to figure out if I gotta start paying or what. Thanks!

Honestly, kinda annoying that the free access is limited now. Was great for quick questions and experiments.
Anyone know if the API usage changed as well or is it just the chat interface?
Just checked again, the free tier still lets you do quite a few queries daily, so not too bad for casual users.
I remember when it was totally free, those were the days!
I switched to other chatbots cuz of the limits, but they’re not as good as ChatGPT imo.
Does anyone know if the ChatGPT app on phones also has the same limitations as desktop?
I’ve been using ChatGPT Plus since the change and it’s worth it for me cause I use it daily at work.
Free version still works but sometimes it’s super slow or you get error messages when usage is high.
I’m kinda happy they have a paid option now cause it means the project can keep going without ads or shady data stuff.
I just try to use it during off-peak hours to avoid restrictions and it works fine for me.
Not sure if anyone else noticed but the terms of service got updated around same time as pricing change.
The limits on free use seem pretty reasonable if you just use it casually.
I think they made the change around late 2023, before that it was unlimited free usage.
Yeah, I noticed that too. It seems like OpenAI has started limiting free usage and pushing folks toward a paid plan.
Was sad to see they removed some of the free plugins and stuff, kinda limiting the experience.
Do you think this means more AI tools will go subscription based soon?
I think they introduced ChatGPT Plus which is a subscription for faster and more reliable access. The free version is still there but with cutbacks.
I’m surprised by how many people still expect it to be fully free, it’s a huge cost to run those servers.
I’d be willing to pay a little if it means faster answers and no wait time.
Not totally free any more but still some free usage each month. Just gotta register and you get a quota.
I heard some people saying you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might offer free alternatives.
I hope they keep some kind of free access for students or low income folks tho.
