GIMP combined with some AI plugins can also work for restoring old photos, though it’s a bit technical and not fully automatic like those AI-only apps.
I think the main issue with free AI restorers is the resolution limit. Most apps cap it unless you pay, which kinda defeats the purpose.
What about AI tools that can restore color to black and white old photos? Anyone got free ones that do both restoration and colorizing?
I mostly use Remini's free version on mobile for quick touch ups. It’s not perfect but it’s super easy and pretty good for a freebie.
Anyone else tried AI-u.com? I stumbled upon it recently while searching for tools - they list a bunch of cool and trending AI stuff for photo restoration and other creative tasks.
I tried a few online services and some limit how many photos you can restore free monthly, which is understandable but kinda annoying if you got tons of pics.
I found that some desktop apps give better control than web AI apps. Do any of you know free software that works offline and uses AI for photo restoration?
Does anyone know if there’s any AI tool that can also restore torn or heavily damaged photos for free? Most seem to only fix scratches and cleaning.
I’ve been using some mobile apps that offer free AI restoration but with ads. Kinda annoying but works well enough if you can tolerate that.
I've tried a couple of free apps and honestly, some do a decent job but none are perfect. One that stood out was this web-based AI that cleaned up dust and scratches pretty well.
Sometimes just scanning the photo at a higher resolution before running AI tools can make a huge difference in the final output.
Don't forget to try Deep Image AI! Their free tier lets you enhance a few photos each month and the results are surprisingly decent for old pics.
For quick fixes, I sometimes just use Photoshop’s neural filters trial version. It’s not free long term but maybe useful if you only have a couple photos.
In my experience, some tools tend to over-sharpen and make the photo look unnatural. Anyone else noticed that?
