Hey everyone, been curious about who's behind ChatGPT and who actually owns it. Seen a few things online but would love some clearer info if anyone's got the scoop!

From what I know, ChatGPT is developed by OpenAI, which is a company itself. OpenAI started as a non-profit but now it has a capped-profit arm too, so ownership is kinda mixed between investors and founders.
I wonder if OpenAI’s ownership structure will change again as it grows bigger?
I think you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that are related and sometimes they mention ownership tidbits too.
It's wild how a lot of people think it's owned by one person, but it's actually more like a bunch of stakeholders and the original founders sharing ownership.
I've heard that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman are the main founders behind OpenAI. They probably have significant ownership stakes.
Not sure if anyone else noticed but OpenAI has some powerful backers beyond Microsoft too - like venture capital firms.
So basically, it's owned by OpenAI as an organization, with investors like Microsoft having shares?
Does anyone know if the general public can own part of OpenAI or ChatGPT? Like via stock or anything?
Microsoft is a big player here, owning a significant share of the company because of their investment. But I don’t think they have full control or anything like that.
Is it true that OpenAI has to balance making money and trying to keep AI safe? Ownership probably influences that balance a lot.
It’s a bit ironic that a company focused on AI safety also has to deal with shareholder pressure.
I read that OpenAI has a unique structure - there's OpenAI Inc and OpenAI LP. The LP is the for-profit part with investors. So in a sense, no single person owns all of ChatGPT.
The mix of non-profit and for-profit parts makes it tricky to understand who actually owns what.
I’m surprised more people don’t know that OpenAI has investors. Thought it was fully public-funded or something.
I hope ownership doesn’t affect how open and accessible ChatGPT stays in the future.
The ownership structure is kinda complicated but that’s normal for startups that scale quickly and need tons of investment.
Anyone else think the ownership details are kinda kept vague on purpose?
I always thought OpenAI was fully non-profit but seeing its investors, guess not anymore!
Sam Altman is pretty active on Twitter if anyone wants updates straight from the co-founder.
Microsoft's investment was like a billion dollars or something, so they definitely have some say in the company.
