I'm curious if ChatGPT has the capability to perform Optical Character Recognition (OCR) directly or if it needs integration with other tools to read text from images. Can anyone provide insights or experiences regarding ChatGPT's OCR functionality?

ChatGPT itself doesn't perform OCR directly. However, with the new image input feature, it can analyze images and sometimes read text within them, but it's not as reliable as dedicated OCR software.
If you want to do OCR within a chatbot, integrating ChatGPT with an OCR API is the way to go.
With the image input enabled, ChatGPT can identify and extract text from images to some extent, but it’s primarily a language model, so it’s not designed to replace full OCR software.
