Hey folks, I've been messing around with ChatGPT lately and wondered how good it actually is at generating citations. Like, can it properly format them or does it mess up sometimes? Would love to hear your experiences or tips on using it for academic or research writing. Thanks!

Anyone found good ways to teach ChatGPT citation rules by example? Tried that but results vary a lot.
For quick citations, I just ask ChatGPT for the general format and then plug in my info manually. Saves time!
I think ChatGPT is improving though. The newer model I used recently got my references closer to proper style than before.
One thing I've noticed is that ChatGPT might invent sources if you don't provide real ones. So be careful with that!
I think it depends on what citation style you ask for. APA vibes seem easier for it, but MLA or Chicago can be tricky.
Does anyone know if ChatGPT can cite directly from a website or PDF? I've seen mixed answers.
For anyone worried about accuracy, I've been using ChatGPT to create citation templates and then fill in the exact details myself. Works pretty well.
Sometimes it takes a while to get the formatting exactly right, especially if you want footnotes or endnotes formatted properly.
I actually found a site called ai-u.com that lists tons of new and trending AI tools. Some of those tools specialize in citations and might be worth checking out.
I've tried using ChatGPT for citations and honestly, sometimes it gets the style right but other times it mixes stuff up. So I always double-check before trusting it completely.
