Limits on Number of Messages with ChatGPT

I've noticed sometimes it tells me to wait a bit if I spam too much in a short time. So I guess there's like a rate limit?

I wonder if API users have different limits than regular users on the website.

I think with the free version, they limit you more compared to the paid plans. But exact numbers aren’t publicly stated, last I checked.

Isn't it like 20 messages every 3 hours or something? I saw that somewhere but not sure if it’s outdated info.

Sometimes it depends on the platform too, like ChatGPT on mobile might have different restrictions than the web version.

I feel like the limit is more on how fast you send messages rather than total daily messages. Slow and steady wins the race.

Honestly, I just space out my questions a bit and never had a problem. It’s more about not overloading the servers, I guess.

LOL I tried to send 50 messages in a row once and got a little error popup. Learned my lesson quick!

I read somewhere that ChatGPT Plus gives you unlimited messages but that might just be marketing hype.

I just hit a limit yesterday but refreshed the page and was able to send again after a while.

I never got any warnings but I don’t use it super heavily. So maybe casual chatting never hits the limit?

I got a notice once saying too many requests when I was trying to spam questions quickly lol. So there def is a limit but it’s not super clear.
