Hey everyone, I've been trying to get ChatGPT to stop throwing in em dashes in its replies. It's kinda annoying and breaks the flow for me. Anyone figured out a good way to keep it from using those? Would appreciate any tips or tricks. Thanks!

I tried telling it 'no em dashes allowed' but it still sneaks them in occasionally. Annoying but kinda funny.
Maybe they could just add a toggle for punctuation style, that’d be a neat feature.
I find it kinda annoying too. Maybe it’s trying to sound fancier or something.
I guess we just gotta live with it for now or do manual edits, not ideal but doable.
Honestly, I just edited them out after the fact. ChatGPT likes em dashes a lot, it's like a quirk lol.
Have you tried specifying the kind of punctuation you prefer in your initial instructions? It helps a lot!
I actually like em dashes sometimes, but I get it can be overkill.
Sometimes it’s just random, like one response has zero em dashes and the next is full of them. No real consistency.
If you want a quick fix, you can also do a find-and-replace in your text editor to swap em dashes for commas.
Try telling it to use only simple punctuation like commas and periods instead of any special marks. That approach helped me cut down on em dashes a lot.
For me, rewriting the prompt to be more casual helps reduce the em dash use. Formal prompts tend to get more of them.
I noticed it kinda depends on how you phrase your prompt. If you specifically ask it to avoid em dashes and use commas or periods instead, it usually listens pretty well.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might have better control over punctuation styles.
