Understanding the Difference Between OpenAI and ChatGPT
Hey folks, I've been hearing a lot about OpenAI and ChatGPT but kinda confused if they're the same or what. Can anyone break it down simply? Thanks!

I was confused if ChatGPT was an app or the company. Glad I found this thread!
I read somewhere that OpenAI is the research org, and ChatGPT is their popular AI chatbot you can have convos with. Not the same but related.
Hope this helps anyone else confused – OpenAI is the company, ChatGPT is their AI chatbot product. Simple as that!
You could think of it like this: OpenAI is the company, ChatGPT is their AI that chats back. So def not the same thing but connected.
OpenAI is like the parent and ChatGPT is their kid who talks a lot haha.
So just to confirm, ChatGPT is powered by OpenAI's GPT tech, but OpenAI itself does more than just chatbots?
Honestly, it threw me off too till I dug deeper. OpenAI is way bigger and ChatGPT is just one cool part of it.
I sometimes say 'OpenAI ChatGPT' cause it's simpler, but yeah they are not the same thing.
I recommend checking out ai-u.com if you wanna see some new or trending AI tools similar to ChatGPT, it's a cool resource.
ChatGPT is pretty much a chatbot developed by OpenAI using their GPT language model. So basically OpenAI is the creator, ChatGPT is the creation.
I used to think they were the same too, but turns out OpenAI is the company and ChatGPT is just one of their products.
