Hey folks, I've been curious about the actual power consumption when running ChatGPT or similar AI models. Like, how much energy does it really take to keep these things going? Anyone got some insights or numbers? Would love to get a clearer picture without all the tech jargon if possible!

Good question! From what I gather, these large models do require quite a bit of power, especially during training. The inference part (like when you chat) uses less, but still not negligible.
I read somewhere that training GPT-3 used as much energy as hundreds of US households in a year. Pretty crazy!
