Hey folks, I was wondering about the 'GPT' part in ChatGPT. Like, what exactly does it stand for and how does it work behind the scenes? I'm kinda new to all this AI stuff and would love some simple explanations or cool insights. Thanks!

GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer. Basically, it's a type of AI model designed to generate text based on the input it gets. Pretty neat, right?
I wonder how much computing power it takes to train these GPT models. Must be insane!
I heard GPT models have different versions like GPT-2, GPT-3. Is ChatGPT based on one of these?
I've heard it's based on transformers but what exactly are they? Anyone can explain in simple terms?
I love how this tech has made chatting with machines actually fun and useful. Can't believe it all started with GPT models.
Love how GPT models keep getting better. Pre-training on tons of data and then fine-tuning makes it super flexible for chatbots.
So GPT is generative and pre-trained but what about the 'chat' part? Is that just a user interface?
Does GPT understand what it's saying or just predicting words?
So from what I get, GPT models learn from a big pile of text first, then they can generate pretty coherent stuff?
Can someone explain why it's called 'pre-trained'? What happens in that phase?
Honestly, the way GPT understands context and keeps track of conversations blows my mind.

Is GPT used only for chatbots or other things too?
