Storm systems to hit Metro Vancouver with waves of rain this week | News

Metro Vancouver is bracing for a soggy start to November as a series of storm systems are set to bring waves of rain to the region this week. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a rainfall warning due to two low-pressure systems expected to hit B.C.'s South Coast beginning Wednesday, November 5. According to ECCC meteorologist Brian Proctor, the first frontal system will move swiftly across Metro Vancouver, quickly followed by a second band of rain. Proctor described the weather event as quite an interesting phenomenon, somewhat similar to an atmospheric river. Essentially, there will be multiple waves of moisture embedded in the frontal systems, which means the rain won’t be just a brief downpour but rather prolonged periods of heavy showers. This pattern is expected to continue through Thursday night, soaking the region with consistent rain. Parts of Metro Vancouver, especially the North Shore areas like West Vancouver and North Vancouver, along with the Northeast regions including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, are forecast to receive significant rainfall amounts ranging between 50 to 70 millimeters. Proctor emphasized that the rain will be widespread, saying, “Everyone is going to see rain.” Despite the wet weather, there’s some good news on the horizon. The forecast calls for clearing skies later in the week, with a mix of sun and clouds expected on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will remain mild, reaching highs of up to 13 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and slightly cooler highs around 12 degrees Celsius on Sunday. However, evenings will get chilly with overnight lows dipping to around 4 degrees Celsius come Saturday night, so it’s wise to bundle up if you’re heading out.
