Furious bull terrorises community and attacks people – 'he’s waiting for the moment' - Daily Star

A rampaging bull has been terrorizing the residents of Gračac, a community in Croatia's Zadar County, for the past six months. The bull has been roaming freely through the streets, damaging property and attacking locals, sparking fear among families. Despite multiple interventions by the police and fines issued to the owner, the situation remains unresolved. Locals say the bull seems to deliberately wait for the right moment to charge, even appearing as people try to leave their homes. Residents shared with Croatian news outlet 24sata that the bull's behavior has escalated over time. Initially, it didn't bother anyone, but recently it has entered people’s yards multiple times. Some have reported that the bull seems to be stalking them, especially when they get into their cars. Parents have expressed concern for their children, who are now scared to play outside because of the bull’s unpredictable aggression. The police have confirmed that officers from the Gračac Border Police Station responded to five separate incidents involving the bull between June and early November 2025. During these responses, police established misdemeanour offences against the owner under the Law on Offences Against Public Order and Peace, leading to sanctions. Authorities have also informed municipal services and the State Inspectorate about the ongoing issues, but the bull's presence hasn’t diminished. Compounding the problem, locals report that it’s not just this one bull causing trouble. The entire herd, including cows and goats, regularly wanders the streets and even along railway tracks. When the owner is not around, the livestock often block the roads, creating safety risks for both residents and passing vehicles. The owner claims to have sold the bull and is waiting for the new buyer to collect it, but weeks have passed with no change. The community’s fears are well-founded; there have been attacks. One resident recalled a frightening incident when a man in a field was charged by the bull but managed to escape up a tree and call the police. When officers arrived, the bull charged at them as well, forcing the police to fire warning shots into the air to scare it off. Despite all this, residents feel helpless and vulnerable, desperate for protection and peace of mind. The ongoing chaos has disrupted daily life in Gračac, with children no longer able to safely play outside and locals wary of going about their routines. Despite fines, police interventions, and repeated complaints, the problem lingers, leaving the community in a state of constant unease. They only want to live without fear and have the safety of their homes and streets restored.
