As the game approaches its two-year anniversary, creative director Antony Christoulakis took the opportunity to reflect on the journey Keen Games has been through since the game's initial launch. He shared insights about the studio’s growth, upcoming plans, and what players can expect as the game moves toward its full 1.0 release planned for 2026. Keen Games has seen impressive growth since Enshrouded launched, with the player base already exceeding four and a half million, a figure that caught the team by surprise. Reflecting on their expansion, the team size has doubled from roughly 40 to 80 developers, although some work is still outsourced. Despite rapid growth, Christoulakis mentioned the team now wants to slow hiring to maintain efficiency. This is particularly notable given the industry's widespread layoffs during the same period. The studio has been fortunate to bring in talented new hires who are helping push development forward toward the upcoming 1.0 launch, which is slated for next year but without a fixed release date yet. Christoulakis highlighted that the update’s player count has jumped back up to between 30,000 and 50,000 daily active users, with a stable baseline of around 10,000 even between updates. Unlike PvP-focused games, Enshrouded thrives on its PvE experience, allowing players to enjoy the game solo or with friends without needing large player counts online continuously. The creative output of the community has been staggering, with players building massive structures inspired by landmarks such as those from Lord of the Rings. These creations have sparked a lot of excitement and discussion among the player base, fueling the developers’ motivation. The studio is also actively working on making it easier for players to share their creations. Currently, save games are shared through Discord, which Christoulakis admits is a bit technical for many players. Keen Games runs a feature wish board where players can suggest and vote on new ideas. This board has been flooded with tens of thousands of suggestions, making it a challenge for the team to address everything quickly. However, the developers review it daily to prioritize features. One unexpected request they fulfilled was implementing separate quest progressions for multiplayer groups, addressing an issue where players miss out on quests if not present on a shared server. Looking ahead, Christoulakis emphasized that the game will continue to receive new content well beyond the 1.0 release. Keen Games does not view the full launch as the end but rather as a milestone in an ongoing journey. There are no plans yet to start a new project; the focus remains entirely on enriching Enshrouded.
