The grooming process lasted for several months, during which Davies built a sinister network of fake personas to gain the victim's trust. Eventually, he traveled over 50 miles to pick her up from school and sexually assaulted her multiple times at a secluded location. Gosling spoke candidly about the challenges posed by modern technology, admitting that predators now use a variety of platforms to commit these offences, which makes legislation like the Online Safety Act vital. Gosling also praised the bravery of the victim, who played a pivotal role in the investigation by providing detailed evidence, including a video interview that helped police trace Davies’ vehicle and connect him to the fake accounts. Her courage was instrumental in securing the conviction.
