Page Finds His Vibe With ‘Vibration’

Juliu Marco Hamwele, popularly known as Page, has stepped out on his own with the release of his debut solo EP titled ‘Vibration’. This eight-track project marks a significant milestone in his career, moving him from being recognized mainly as a member of the duo Ethnix, into establishing his individual artistic voice. Page describes the EP as a "magnificent body of work" and says the timing was right after years of collaborating creatively with others. The EP includes production work by Focus from Champion League DJz, who also took care of mixing and mastering, giving the songs a polished, studio-quality sound. One standout track on the EP is ‘Money’, which blends old-school funk with modern Afro-fusion vibes reminiscent of Christopher Martin’s ‘Paper Loving’. Page says he was drawn to this song because it strikes a perfect balance between melody and groove. Though he’s pursuing solo projects, Page reassures fans that Ethnix isn’t going anywhere. He explains that both he and Etjo agreed to not restrict themselves creatively, allowing space for solo expressions alongside their group work. Fans can still expect new Ethnix material in the near future. When talking about the making of ‘Vibration’, Page highlights how important it was to create a relaxed, positive atmosphere during recording. He made sure everyone felt comfortable, with snacks and refreshments to keep the vibe flowing smoothly. Among the tracks, ‘Ondjira’, featuring Big Ben, stands out as one of the most personal. Recorded during a tough phase in his life, the song represents a turning point. Page called on Big Ben, a respected artist and close friend, to collaborate on the track, making it a soulful and meaningful piece that signals a fresh start. Beyond his musical output, Page has been working to create supportive spaces for other artists. He co-founded The Beat, a creative venue in Okuryangava, together with business partner Imms Shikongo and producer Andrew on the Beat. The idea was to build a place where musicians could record and relax without having to leave for food or drinks, removing common barriers to creativity and collaboration. ‘Vibration’ showcases a rich mix of genres, including kwasa kwasa, amapiano, Afrobeat, and soft groove sounds. The EP closes with ‘I Love You’, produced with DJ Vuyo, which Page describes as a heartfelt message to fans who have been part of his journey. He wants listeners to feel the evolution in his music, with lyrics rooted in real-life experiences. Page’s career started back in 2007 with the rap group Dream City, before rising to national fame with Ethnix and hits like ‘Open Up’ and ‘Ponomate’. That experience helped him gain confidence to take full control of his sound and vision. With ‘Vibration’ gaining momentum, Page is already planning visuals for the songs ‘Money’ and the title track, hoping to release the videos before the year ends. He admits juggling artistry and entrepreneurship can be tricky but sees it as part of growing and making smart choices to keep his creative journey on track.
