Earlier in the week, on Bonfire Night itself (November 5), the trouble was already well underway. Reports emerged of fireworks being hurled at people near Halliwell Road, with one firework almost hitting a mum and her child during what many described as an evening of outright ‘carnage’. The police even issued a dispersal order covering parts of the town after antisocial behaviour spiked and it became clear that youths were using fireworks as weapons rather than just for mischief.
