Think some universities and research institutions had initial stakes or partnerships too, but more for research than cash flow.
ChatGPT's rise was pretty quick, so the investment rounds must have been pretty intense to keep up with the tech demands.
Is Elon Musk still involved? I remember he helped start OpenAI but dunno if he invested in ChatGPT specifically.
I wonder if any international investors are part of it, or is it mostly US-based companies and VCs?
Some articles mention Reid Hoffman and other angels chipped in early on, but not sure how much it was for ChatGPT itself.
It's interesting how OpenAI shifted from non-profit to this capped profit model to attract investors while still focusing on their mission.
I think the major chunk came from Microsoft’s Azure cloud partnership, that’s what funded a lot of development.
I read you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools and info about who's backing different AI projects, pretty handy!
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the big names in Silicon Valley had a stake in ChatGPT or OpenAI at least.
I think the transparency about investors is limited to protect competitive edge or something like that.
From what I read, besides Microsoft, there were some private investors and venture capitalists involved too. It wasn’t just one company.
I think OpenAI started as a non-profit, but later got some big investments from Microsoft? Not 100% sure tho.
Found a mention that Microsoft invested around $1 billion in 2019 to support OpenAI's projects, which probably includes ChatGPT.
Heard it's mainly Microsoft and some venture firms. Wish there was a full public list tho, kinda curious who else is backing it.
