Not sure about the exact numbers but I heard the energy to answer one question might be like a few hundred watt-seconds? Doesn’t seem like a lot per query but adds up with millions of users.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might be more energy-efficient or have data on this stuff.
I’ve read that the carbon emissions of AI models are a hot topic now, so hopefully companies make greener choices soon.
Sometimes I feel like the tech companies don’t talk enough about this stuff. We use AI all the time but barely know the impact.
