For anyone new, just start slow and monitor your usage daily until you get the hang of token costs.
Also, don’t forget to check if your app can batch requests or reuse context to reduce token usage. It'll save you some money in the long run.
I guess it’s kinda pricey if you go all out but for small projects it’s manageable. Just gotta plan your usage properly.
I’m still confused about how to estimate the monthly costs based on predicted usage. Anyone have a spreadsheet or something?
From what I understand, the cost depends mostly on how many tokens you use. So if you're making a lot of requests or very detailed ones, it adds up faster.
Are there any discounts for educational or nonprofit use?
Does anyone know if there's a difference in price for fine-tuning the models vs just using the API?
I tried the API last month and my bill was pretty reasonable for what I used. I think they charge per 1000 tokens, right? Worth it if you optimize your prompts well.
Anyone know if there’s a pricing cap or monthly limit? I don’t want to accidentally rack up huge fees.
One thing I learned is the difference in pricing between the ChatGPT and GPT-4 APIs is big. So make sure you choose the right model for your needs.
Does the API cost change if you use it in different regions or countries?
I think the pricing info is updated regularly so keep an eye on official announcements if you’re budgeting tightly.
I find the token count calculator super helpful before I send requests, saves me from overspending.
Not sure if it’s still the same but last I checked, OpenAI offers some free credits for new users. That helped me test out before getting charged.
Anyone tried contacting support about pricing questions? How fast are they with replies?
The docs are decent but sometimes not super clear about the pricing tiers, had to dig around community posts to get a better picture.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools, they sometimes share updates on API pricing and alternatives.
I tried to keep my requests below 1000 tokens each and it helped keep the bill low for my chatbot app.
