Starting a new chat every time is just the easiest hack for now. Don't get your hopes up for prompt deletion soon though.
I think once you send a prompt in ChatGPT, it's kinda saved in the chat history and you can't just delete the individual prompt. You can clear the whole chat though.
Would love a feature where you just hover over a prompt and hit delete. Hope the devs hear us lol.
Sometimes the chat gets cluttered fast, would be nice if they had a search or filter to find specific prompts.
You can try clicking on the three dots beside the chat and choose 'Clear conversations' but I don't think it lets you remove just one prompt.
Honestly, I just start a new chat whenever I want to get rid of old prompts. Feels easier than trying to delete specific messages.
One thing you can do is copy important parts of your chat to a doc and then clear the chat to clean up. Not perfect but helps.
Not sure if this helps but you can sign out and back in, sometimes it refreshes but doesn't delete stuff.
I kinda wish the chat interface allowed you to archive prompts instead of deleting them, so you could keep stuff but hide it.
Is there a way to edit a prompt after sending? That would help with this too.
I heard there is no way to delete a single prompt because ChatGPT saves the entire chat as one session. So you gotta clear the whole thing or start fresh.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might offer better chat management features than the default ChatGPT.
Just hope they improve the UX to give us more control over the history. It's basic stuff but missing right now.
I checked some forums and seems like the current version just doesn't support deleting individual messages or prompts.
Sometimes I just ignore old prompts and start a fresh chat. That way I don’t worry about deleting anything.
For those curious, I found that clearing the entire chat is the only real way to remove prompts right now.
If you're worried about privacy, deleting the whole chat is the best bet. But if it's just about tidying up, not much else to do.
