Had a blast seeing what crazy stuff ChatGPT would come up with as a DM. A little unpredictable but fun.
The player interaction can be a bit robotic though. It’s hard for ChatGPT to pick up on tone or subtle hints like a human DM would.
ChatGPT definitely can’t replace the personal touch and creativity of a human DM, but it's a fun experiment to try.
Tried using ChatGPT as a DM last month and honestly, it was surprisingly good at creating quick story hooks and NPCs. The only downside was it sometimes missed some of the finer rule details, so I had to jump in for rulings.
Tried feeding it my character backstory and it gave me some cool plot hooks to explore.
Funny enough, I used ChatGPT to come up with random dungeon ideas and traps. It was a cool brainstorming partner, but I didnt let it run the whole game.
Tried it once and the story got super weird really fast. ChatGPT’s creativity can be a double-edged sword!
Been using it for NPC dialogue and it nails character voices pretty well sometimes.
Wish there was a dedicated app combining ChatGPT with dice rolling and initiative tracking for DMs.
It’s interesting to see AI getting involved in tabletop gaming though. Could be a game changer in the future!
Honestly, I feel like it’s better as a co-DM or tool to help human DMs rather than the solo DM. It can generate tons of ideas but lacks that human intuition.
I sometimes felt like I was playing with a story generator rather than a DM who reacts and adapts like a person.
I’ve read that some people use ChatGPT alongside other AI tools to make a more rounded DM experience. Heard you can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might help.
For rules accuracy, I found it better to feed ChatGPT specific rule info or manuals so it doesn’t make stuff up.
I’d say for newer players, having ChatGPT as a DM might be a bit confusing since it can be unpredictable.
Tried to get it to improvise combat scenarios but it kinda struggled keeping track of initiative and conditions properly.
I think it can work well for one-shots or casual sessions. For a long campaign, though, it might struggle to keep track of everything and adapt to unexpected player choices.
It’s not perfect, but for casual games or practice sessions, it’s a handy DM stand-in.
Some of my friends tried it and said it was great for generating lore and side quests on the fly.
For those curious, try prompting ChatGPT with clear instructions on style and tone to get better DM results.
If you want a DM that never runs out of ideas and is always available, ChatGPT is pretty awesome. Just gotta manage expectations.
I tried it but the pacing was off, sometimes too slow or jumping ahead too fast.
