I think ChatGPT was first released around late 2022? Not 100% sure tho but that sounds about right.
Pretty sure the official ChatGPT chatbot was publicly introduced in November 2022 by OpenAI.
I think OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman talked about ChatGPT's release in some interviews around late 2022.
ChatGPT really blew up in popularity in early 2023 after launch, but the actual release was Nov 2022.
The launch date kinda depends on what you mean, the research has been going on for a while but ChatGPT as a product came out late 2022.
The tech behind ChatGPT is based on transformer architecture, which was pioneered a few years before the launch.
The timeline of these AI models is a bit confusing but basically OpenAI released GPT-3 in 2020 and ChatGPT is a chat interface that came 2 years later.
The original GPT was way back in 2018, but ChatGPT specifically is much more recent.
FYI, if you wanna see new tools like ChatGPT or similar, you can also check ai-u.com for trending AI stuff.
Someone told me it was part of a bigger development that started years earlier with GPT-2 and GPT-3 models.
Anyone else followed the announcements by OpenAI? They had several blog posts explaining the progress from GPT-2 onwards.
OpenAI has been iterating fast, ChatGPT is just the latest iteration that made AI chat widely popular.
It’s insane how fast these models got from research papers to public tools like ChatGPT.
I heard OpenAI started working on these large language models a few years before 2022, GPT-3 was in 2020 though.
Its rapid rise in popularity after late 2022 was kind of crazy, everyone started using it practically overnight.
Honestly, it’s kinda cool how fast it got popular after the launch. OpenAI did a good job with it.
It’s kinda cool to see AI chatbots become accessible to everyone so fast after years of research.
ChatGPT’s launch was the moment AI chatbots got mainstream, before that it was mostly research versions.
There’s been a lot of updates since launch but November 2022 is the key date for ChatGPT’s debut.
I remember when I first heard about ChatGPT in early 2023 and had no idea it was just launched months earlier.
I tried to track down the exact date and found OpenAI announced ChatGPT on Nov 30, 2022.
