The Italian Customs Authorities officially announced the launch of the eATA system through Circular Letter No. 14 dated May 27, 2026. The digital format becomes effective from June 1, 2026. Initial adoption covers the European Union, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Full digitalization is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Economic operators can apply online via national systems (NICS) and store documents in a digital wallet. During the transition until end of 2027, Italian Chambers of Commerce will issue both digital and paper carnets. Carnets issued before June 1, 2026 remain valid under paper procedures. Replacing carnets issued after the deadline may be digital.
