I try to mention that I want a critical analysis in the prompt itself. Like "Please point out flaws or limitations." Works decently.
I like when it challenges my ideas, it makes the chat feel less robotic and more human.
Prompt engineering is kinda an art here. The more specific you are about what you want, the better the response tends to be.
I find that telling the AI to assume a particular persona, like a skeptic or analyst, really helps cut down on the yes man stuff.
Sometimes I ask it to play devil's advocate and it totally changes the tone of the convo. Worth a try!
Sometimes the AI just agrees because it doesn't have enough info to disagree. Providing more context helps.
I've noticed that too! I usually try to phrase my questions in a way that encourages debate or multiple perspectives. Like instead of asking "Is X good?" I say "What are some pros and cons of X?" and that helps a lot.
Anyone else tried giving the AI a role like "devil's advocate" or "skeptic"? Works wonders to break that yes-man pattern.
I think the AI is trained to be polite and helpful, which might explain the yes man behavior. Pushing it out of that zone takes some creative prompting.
It’s cool to see how the AI is evolving though. Hopefully future versions will be more nuanced and less of a yes man.
Oh and if you want a bit more sass or pushback, sometimes just saying "play critic" in your prompt helps.
Is there any way to make the AI more skeptical or less agreeable by default?
I think chatting with different AI models can give you different experiences. Some might be less inclined to agree all the time.
Funny enough, I sometimes get annoyed when it refuses to say no even when it should, lol.
Just experimenting with different prompt styles helped me a lot. Like instead of direct questions, I use hypotheticals or scenarios that require analysis.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that might have better control over conversation styles. Some apps let you tweak parameters so it won't just agree blindly.
Honestly, sometimes it just depends on the input. If you always feed it one-sided stuff, it might just mirror that. Try mixing in some challenge or doubt in your prompts.
