The versions also differ in size and training data volume, which impacts how they perform.
I think there’s been at least 4 major versions, like starting from GPT-1 up to GPT-4. But each version might have had minor updates too.
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools and versions if you want latest updates on these AI models.
I think GPT-3 had a few variants too, like ada, babbage, curie, and davinci, which were smaller or bigger models.
To add, I read somewhere that OpenAI’s naming kinda skips numbers sometimes for different model types, so counting can get tricky.
Sometimes I wonder if the versions are really that different for everyday users or more just for tech enthusiasts.
It’s exciting to see where this tech is going next, hope the next versions get even better at understanding context.
I’m pretty sure ChatGPT started off based on GPT-3.5 and later switched to GPT-4. So that’s at least two versions in public use.
Anyone knows if there’s gonna be a GPT-5 soon? Or are they waiting on improving GPT-4?
It’s cool to see how these versions evolved from simple text prediction to full conversations and even image inputs.
I read OpenAI releases research papers with each big version, really interesting stuff if you want to dive deep.
The ChatGPT branding is kinda separate from GPT numbers, which confuses a lot of users.
Honestly, it’s a bit confusing since they have the base models and then the ChatGPT branded ones, sometimes the names overlap.
From what I recall, GPT-1 was just a proof of concept, and then GPT-2 was the first big version that got public attention.
Anyone know when the first ChatGPT version was launched? I think it was late 2022?
