I’ve read somewhere that adding 'pretend you are an expert in X' helps to get more detailed replies.
It's wild how much difference little words make. Like adding 'explain step by step' or 'give examples' changes the whole answer.
Does anyone use ChatGPT for coding help? How do you phrase those prompts?
I usually start with a simple prompt and then add instructions if the answer isn’t good enough. Helps me figure out what it needs.
I find that specifying the style or tone helps a lot. Like saying 'explain like I'm 5' or 'write in a formal tone' changes the output a ton.
I always try to be super specific with what I want. Like instead of saying 'tell me about dogs' I say 'what are some lesser-known dog breeds good for apartments'. It helps a lot.
Anyone else feel like ChatGPT sometimes reads between the lines too much and goes off topic?
One thing I mess up is forgetting to tell ChatGPT the format I want. Like I need a list or bullet points, but I just ask the question.
Funny thing is sometimes if you’re too detailed, ChatGPT just assumes you know stuff and skips basics. Gotta find that sweet spot.
Using stepwise instructions to build the answer piece by piece really improves the output for me.
For people new to this, I'd say just experiment and don’t be scared to fail, you learn from bad prompts too!
Sometimes I just ask for a summary first and then ask ChatGPT to expand on parts I like.
I wish it could ask me clarifying questions when prompts are unclear instead of just guessing.
Don't forget to try breaking complex questions into simpler parts for better clarity. ChatGPT can handle multi-step stuff but it's easier when you chunk it.
Sometimes I just ask ChatGPT to help me rewrite my prompts to be clearer. It's kinda meta but works!
I wish there was a list of common prompt templates for different tasks. Anyone know if that exists?
I’m still learning, but sometimes I get stuck when my prompt is too broad. How do you guys narrow it down?
Honestly, sometimes I just chat normally and see what comes out, surprises me how good it can be!
