Honestly, I think people underestimate how much energy these AI models consume. Training and running them on huge servers isn't exactly eco-friendly.
I've read somewhere that the carbon footprint of training a big model can be as high as a few hundred tons of CO2, which is nuts!
I think the main issue is that people wanna keep using AI nonstop without thinking about the energy cost behind it.
Does anyone know if ChatGPT servers run mostly on renewable energy or not? That makes a huge difference in the impact.
