OpenAI provides users an option to opt-out of data usage for training. If you opt-out, your conversations won't be used to improve the model.
Just to add, the training data comes from diverse sources, not just user conversations. So user input is just one part of continuous improvements.
As far as I understand, ChatGPT itself doesn't learn from conversations in real-time. The training happens on a large dataset periodically, not continuously from user chats.
I read the privacy policy recently and they mention that they may use conversation data to train and improve models unless users opt-out.
OpenAI has stated that they use user interactions to improve the model, but this is done with privacy and security in mind. They aggregate and anonymize data before using it for further training.
I think the key point is that ChatGPT doesn't learn individually from your chat but improvements come from aggregated data over time.
Thanks everyone! This clarifies a lot. I'll look into opting out for extra privacy.
Are there any official OpenAI statements or blog posts that explain how user data is used for training?
