I found a cool Reddit thread showing ways AI creators are trying to make models more energy efficient without losing power. Interesting to see progress!
You can also check ai-u.com for new or trending tools that focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, might be worth a look!
Honestly, I think people underestimate the power consumption of these models. Training and running them on cloud servers uses a ton of electricity, which mostly comes from non-renewable sources. It's definitely not green tech.
I wonder if in the future we’ll have AI models that run entirely on renewable energy and are carbon neutral? Seems like the only way to go forward.
I read somewhere that just one big AI model training session can emit carbon equivalent to several cars driving for a year. That kinda freaks me out.
Anyone else worried about the e-waste from all the hardware needed to run these AI servers 24/7? Its a hidden issue that rarely comes up.
Anyone here done any research on how ChatGPT’s environmental effect compares with other online services like streaming or social media?
I think people forget that tech like this also saves environmental resources by reducing the need for physical stuff, travel, and paper. It balances out in some ways.
It’s kinda ironic how something so smart can have such a dumb environmental footprint. We gotta be smarter about this stuff.
I think awareness is the first step, but then we need actual regulations to push tech companies to be greener, otherwise it’s just talk.
